Stalilizing Madrone

Wood working with Madrone.

A lot of crafters are afraid of madrone and other burls like it. But the payoff is worth the process!
What ever your application is if you want it to not crack or distort with this method you are about 95% successful. Some madrone will just crack.

So here we go...

Step #1
If for turning rough turn your bowl to 1 1/2"
Crafted by David Gould of New York
Step #2
Boil it for 3 hrs. Presser cooker is even better. Don't take it out of the water until you can grab it with your hands
Step #3
Let it dry in a cool place. Keep and eye on it. Some will just dry others will still try and crack.
Note: for the ones that want to crack seal the crack with supper glue or you can coat the whole bowl with AnchorSeal.
With AnchorSeal it will take longer to dry.
Step #4
After it reaches a moisture content that you desire... Finish turning the bowl and sand.
